The 139th Episode : Not the place a guy goes alone

Tumon beach, Guam

[June, 1998 Kansai International Airport => Guam]

Guam that’s said the nearest paradise from Japan.  Now it’s an American territory but was occupied and governed by Japan from 1941 to 1944 and called Ohmiya-jima (Ohmiya island).

I’d never had an idea to go there for business.  Our company had an anniversary campaign to invite some top sales distributors during an appointed period in 1998.  For the preparation, I was to visit there to have a meeting for the allocation of visitors’ rooms, the contents of the party, meals… etc. with a hotel.

I was on board of a night flight, left Kansai airport at late evening and arrived in Guam in the midnight.  The equipment was a small one with 3-seat on both sides of the aisle.  It was approx. 4-hour flight via Saipan and I secured an aisle side seat as usual.  The middle and window side seats were still vacant.  It was the summer holidays’ season when many families and couples were there in the cabin.  No single traveller like myself might not be there.  Some bad feeling came over my mind.  Then it came true!

A young couple were approaching me and stopped beside my seat.  Excuse me, a woman said, and continued those were our seats pointing out the middle and window side seats.  I stood up for them to access the seats.  A man sat on the window side and a woman on the middle seat, i.e. next to me.  They were already in the full tropical mood.  She was in short pants fully showing her beautiful legs.  It must’ve been a living hell for me for 4 hours in such a circumstance.

Nobody was sitting on the 3 seats on other side of the aisle.  I asked a cabin crew if I could change my seat over there.  Just before departure I was allowed to change as no others would come anymore.  I was relieved.  The couple also seemed to be happy.  Of course they would have wanted to be only themselves.  Sorry for disturbing.
