The 119th Episode : The Andes
[May, 1998 Santiago, Chile]
The Andes rise to the east of the office of our distributor. They may be 13,000 – 16,000 ft high mountains and on their tops were covered with white snow. Santiago is in the basin located at 1,700 ft above sea level and 60 miles inland from the seacoast.
They usually have smog and air pollution, especially in winter. The president told me I was lucky to see the Andes. The air pollution was taken away by yesterday’s rain, he said. They are usually not seen so clearly.
There was a globe in the office about 20 inches in the diameter. I checked the location of Chile and Japan on it. I couldn’t see the both countries at the same time. Almost the opposite each other on the earth. It was unbelievable I was so far from Japan. They were so far actually, but only the Pacific Ocean was in between.
Yes, I was in the next country to Japan.
