Foreign countries are like this〜

The 118th Episode : First meal in South America

Santiago, Chile

[May, 1998 Santiago, Chile]

He picked me up at the hotel and I was excited where he’d take me to.  The place we arrived was Sushi restaurant.  Oh no, the first food in South America, the first visit, was Japanese one like the first food in Europe (Paris).

The restaurant was managed by immigrants from Japan, married couple.  The name was “Shogun” means the General.  They were good, because Japanese cooked.  The total distance of the Chilean coastline is approx. 4,000 miles.  It is longest in the world… no, no, Russia, Canada, Indonesia…  More longer one they may have.  Just for your information, 18,560 miles is the Japan’s coastline, three quarters of one round of the earth, as we have many islands.  In Chile, fishing industry is flourishing and most of the prawns are exported to Japan, it’s said.

Such Japanese food must be expensive.  I suspect that they eat expensive food with the company’s expenses to use the visitor.  The president of this distributor liked Sushi very very much.  When he came to Japan I took him the exclusive store for sushi cooking tools like kitchen knives.  He has many tools for Sushi.

The Sushi was very good as if I feel eating at Japan.  But it was a foreign country for me, let me eat the local one next onwards… please.
