The 69th Episode : Southern hemisphere
[October, 1996 Johannesburg, South Africa]
October, 1996, to Johannesburg, South Africa. It took 13 hours from Hong Kong where I transited. I passed over the equator first time into the southern hemisphere. Of course the first time onto the African continent.
I left Hong Kong in the midnight and arrived at Johannesburg International Airport in the early morning. The taxi rolled on down the expressway to the down town. People’s, especially Japanese, image to Africa is usually the great nature like jungles, grass fields, fierce animals, desert… etc. but it was not where I went. If possible I wanted to go those places. Many tall buildings were there in the down town.
Our customer arranged the schedule that he would pick me up before noon to have a lunch together and a meeting in the afternoon, caring my long trip. I was going to take a rest until then.
However, I had one thing definitely wanted to do before that. I put water in the bathtub to about half, then remove the plug for drain hole. I wanted to confirm the swirl rounds clockwise first of all. It was indeed. I realised I was in the southern hemisphere actually and took a rest.
