The 185th Episode : God of reggae
[June, 2009 Kumasi => Accra, Ghana]
On the way back to Accra from Kumasi after all the schedule was completed, YB pointed out the left forward saying "that's the house of Bob Marley's wife". There was a big house surrounded by long wall in gaudy Rastafarian colour. I asked him to stop the car as I wanted to get a well look and walked closer to the house.
"Yeah, this is the house of Rita Markey, the wife of Bob Marley who's been said as a god of reggae." She was born in Cuba but her ancestors were from Ghana. She'd been living back here since Bob past away.
The house also seemed to double as a music studio, and 'Bob Marley Music Inc.' and 'Rita Marley Music Inc.' were painted in large letters on the wall. Rastafarian colour, the symbol colour of reggae, was used here and there on the wall and the house, and the Jamaican and Ghanaian flags were flown. There was a guardroom next to the gate and the guard permitted me to take some photos.
I must've recongnised such gaudy coloured house and wall if we've passed by on the way to Kumasi, but actually we might not take this street, I thought. YB drove a different way on the back to Accra to show it to me!? Thanks, YB!!
