The 17th Episode : Leave Hong Kong
[November, 1982 Hong Kong]
At the inspection counter in Hong Kong Kai Tak Airport for departure, the final barrier waited for me. My hard case for camera was targeted. The inspector opened it and picked up my camera. He removed the lens and gazed into the lens. Still more other interchangeable lenses were also taken out and did the same removing the lens caps for each. I guessed his doubt was if I cored out lenses and put “white powder” or “grass”!?!? I was anxious about if he damaged. The inspected objects were put on the counter one by one without putting back the case.
The case got empty at last. Finished, I thought but not yet. He began to knock the lid and the side of the case. Checking if it was a fake case or not… You got that far! Finished finally after taking a long time. My anger reached over the top! He said OK and going to put them back into the case. NO! Should put them in order or everything couldn’t be put in and damaged. “Don’t touch! I do it myself!”
Might be no way he did so because that was his job. I shouted loudly because as if I was treated as a suspect to a certain crime. Long line for waiting the inspection was made behind me. The inspector said me hurry up. Shut up! I shouted again. You took them out! The last quarrel. I intentionally put them back into the case slowly, slowly and methodically.
