The 11th Episode : Children swarming around
[November, 1982 Yangshuo, China]
How many surprises happen to me? Many children gathered at the tourist areas. Children at the same-age-looked as the boy taking an ox were also there. They also might not be in the circumstance to go to school as well. Especially at the parking.
They stretched their arms to the tourists getting on/off the buses to solicited formoney and/or sweets. Even after we got on the bus, they still stretched their arms up to the buses’ windows. Don’t feel sympathy to them. If they got something once, they could get the taste for it they would repeat the same. Poor indeed they were but ignoring is the best way for their sake.
Many children swarmed to Occupation Forces to get sweets in Japan just after the World War II, I heard, but never seen after 1960’s. It’s said that Japanese people are all in middle class or higher. I learnt how rich and happy we Japanese were.
